Coffee Painting

You can have coffee in your cake, coffee in your gelato, and coffee in your wonderfully art deco Miam Miam Mug, but have you ever thought about coffee on your wall? Artists world wide have begun dipping their brushes in coffee and covering their canvases with intricate masterpieces. Coffee painting is not a new art form by any means, but recently it has been sweeping the globe and increasing in popularity. Not only is it appealing to the eye and smells great, it is a great medium for any artist…See More

A Delicious History of Chocolate

For many people coffee has a lot to do with chocolate; and to some women, it is more of a best friend than diamonds ever will be. Those of you who have enjoyed the intense comfort of a café mocha know exactly what I am talking about. Many people over the course of many centuries have had this same remarkable love of chocolate; it has been used as currency, and even has become synonymous with feelings of love. But how did this all start exactly? When did the human race start its love affair with…See More

The Buzz On Decaf

Sometimes a cup of coffee is more than a caffeine buzz, though there are some that might be shocked at the thought. There are many different compounds and chemicals in coffee that make up its taste and caffeine is actually one of those. Caffeine doesn’t have a very big impact on…See More

Coffee Roasting 101

Lately, as I have been dealing a lot with coffee beans and watching my boss roast them, I realized that one of the things that I find most fascinating about the history of coffee is that people figured out the process of roasting in the first place. In order to enjoy coffee the way that we do today it has to first be roasted; a green coffee bean does not have the same wonderful taste as a roasted bean, while it does have about the same amounts of caffeine, protein, and acid. The roasting process…See More

Coffee Origins: Kona

Recently, as Jaho has started roasting its own coffee, I have been exposed to new types. One of these that certainly demands attention is Kona coffee from Hawaii. This special bean is sought after all over the world for its rich flavor that is unlike anything else on the coffee market. Kona coffee comes from the Kona districts of Hawaii, which is on the biggest island and includes the slopes of Mauna Loa and Mount Hualalai. Only coffee grown in the Kona district can legally be labeled as Kona.…See More
