History
It's hard to say exactly where Jaho Coffee & Tea began; it could have been in Salem the day it opened, or maybe in Seoul, South Korea when founder Anil Mezini first thought about opening a coffee house. But the truth is, it all began in a small Italian town, San Marino, a few miles outside of Rome. It was here, in a small coffee bar that Anil first experienced the simple joy of fine espresso. Anil continued to travel across Italy, making stops in Rome, Milan and Perugia, studying and sampling the deepest, most flavorful roasts and brews the country had to offer.
After a brief stop at his home town of Salem, MA, Anil was off again, this time to the Land of the Rising Sun. It was in Japan that he was introduced to the world of tea and, more importantly the concept of slowlife. He realized the importance of surroundings and having a comfortable, serene environment to turn a simple cup of tea into a relaxing experience. His love for tea grew as he traveled to more exotic locations: Thailand, Taiwan, and finally South Korea, where inspired by his favorite Seoul coffee bar, he first began thinking about opening Jaho Coffee & Tea.
He returned home to Salem, and underwent months of research and hands on practice before finally deciding he was ready to open up Jaho. Since opening on August of 2005, Jaho has become Salem's favorite coffee shop and a regular stop for many of the locals.
